Cat. #003201521: BETTA ST. JOHN

Rare and lovely vintage 8x10-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1950s. In good condition, with some wear to the left edge, not affecting the image itself. Betta St. John entered films at the age of 10, in the unbilled role of little girl who sing's Marlene Dietrich's song "Little Joe" in the classic western Destry Rides Again (1939). She went on to appear in an Our Gang short and in Jane Eyre (1943). Blossoming into talented, exotically beautiful young woman, she was cast by Rodgers and Hammerstein in the original stage productions of "Carousel" (1945) and "South Pacific" (1949) before returning to the screen in 1953. She was noteworthy in The Robe (1953), The Law vs. Billy the Kid (1954), The Naked Dawn (1955), Tarzan and the Lost Safari (1957), High Tide at Noon (1957), horror's Corridors of Blood (1958), and The City of the Dead (1960).
